Internships

Internship Purpose

The agency’s goal for interns is to have a meaningful experience working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and learning about the dynamics of a small non-profit agency.  After a period of orientation and observation, interns will have the opportunity to work directly with clients and children.  Supervisors provide on-going supervision and guidance.  Interns may be able to support clients in judicial systems advocacy, medical advocacy, case management, crisis counseling, support group facilitation, community outreach and education events and other administrative responsibilities.

Education/Experience Prerequisites

Candidates should be college seniors or graduate students majoring in a related concentration.  Graduates or students in their final semester of study are preferred in the selection process.  The candidate should have documented volunteer or work experience in the human services field.   (Applicants are encouraged to have a prepared resume and references available to share with staff members.)

Internship Expectations

Interns will be responsible for developing goals and being committed to the progress of these goals.  Interns will meet weekly for supervision to process questions, concerns, and client contacts throughout the week.  Interns are expected to be professional at all times when representing OASIS in the office and the community and will respect the confidentiality policy for all clients.  Interns will also be asked to attend Crisis Line Volunteer training if applicable for the semester and may be asked to train as a shelter substitute for emergency housing.

Students interested in completing an internship at OASIS should complete and submit an Internship Application ATTN: Lesley Icenhour at casemanager@oasisinc.org
